How To Clean Gold Jewelry

Jun-30-2008 By cindy

Gold jewelry to a woman is priceless. Although gold jewelry comes in many different styles and colors, the care and cleaning procedure for all golden treasures remain the same. Good common sense is your best guide, and these important tips on how to clean gold jewelry will help you keep your exquisite pieces lustrous and shining.

Gold is tarnish-resistant, but it can get dirty or smudged. Lotions, powders, soaps, even natural skin oils that we use regularly can cover your jewelry and cut down their brilliance. Jewelry cleaning removes any such build-up or residue and restores the original sparkle and shine to make your precious jewelries last a lifetime.

Although numerous commercial products are available to clean gold jewelry, most often water and a mild detergent is sufficient to restore the radiance, and a soft brush helps to gently clean intricate filigree designs and stones. Sometimes it can be helpful to soak the gold jewelry in a solution of one part ammonia and six parts water for up to sixty seconds. It is imperative to dry and polish your gold jewelry with a chamois or soft cloth after cleaning.

Jewelry polishing cloths are an effective and inexpensive way of keeping your bits of gold glittering and radiant. These essential cotton cloths help to remove tarnish and to buff jewelry to look as good as new. Avoid wearing jewelry while in contact with household chemicals, such as chlorine bleach as this can discolor or damage your gold jewelry mountings.

Proper storage of jewelry when not in use is essential to keep your golden treasures clean and new. When storing your jewelry, be careful that pieces do not tumble against each other to avoid scratching and loss of radiance. Ideally, store your jewelry in a fabric-lined jewel case, or a box with compartments or dividers or store each piece in individual soft cloth pouches.

It is important to check the stone settings of your jewelry periodically for any damage to the gold prongs or bezels. Immersing the jewelry in rubbing alcohol for a few seconds will restore the gorgeous sparkle to cloudy stones. It is very important to dry the jewelry thoroughly after cleaning before wearing or storing. Remember that Pave set (glued in stones) jewelry should never be immersed in water while cleaning gold jewelry.

Diamond jewelry is the ultimate adornment for a woman or even a man. It is something which takes us beyond the realm of time. Diamond jewelry is a timeless classic adornment, which can never go out of style and will always be looked up amongst all kinds of jewelry.

In buying diamond jewelry it is important to keep some factors in mind. The diamond history, diamond shape (Diamonds come in more shapes than any other gem. Diamond jewelry with spectacular center pieces are available in round, emerald cut, heart, marquise, oval, pear, princess, radiant, and trillion. Diamonds as accents are usually found in small round shapes and baguettes. Popular earrings are usually round or princess cut, though some may come in fancier shapes),

Diamond settings (such as bar, bezel, channel, chevron, invisible, pave, and prongs), diamond carats (The unit used to measure the size and weight of loose diamonds), diamond clarity (Clarity is the clearness of a diamond. The most valued diamonds are the clearest. When shopping for a diamond, look for diamonds with grades from FL to SI2. Stones from VS1 to S2 are the best value because they are lower in price without too many inclusions.)

Diamond color (Diamonds that are colorless or near colorless are the most prized.) And diamond cut (The diamond cut determines the brilliance of the diamonds. If a diamond is poorly cut, the light is lost through the sides and bottom of the diamond and there will be no radiance)

Diamonds are more commonly found in certain shapes; baguette, emerald, heart, marquise, oval, pear, princess, radiant, round and trillion. The most popular diamond shape has been the round brilliant because people believed it to be an “ideal cut” that displayed the most brilliance and sparkle in a diamond. The design also allows it to hide flaws and imperfections. However, new technology has made other shapes just as brilliant, such as the princess cut and trilliant cut. Today, there is no such thing as an “ideal cut” when it comes to diamond jewelry.

In diamond jewelry, the diamonds are set in different kinds of settings. Some of these kinds of settings commonly used in diamond jewelry are-

- Bar: Metal bars hold the loose diamonds in a channel-like setting.

- Bezel: The metal is formed to fit around the diamond, cupping it into place.

- Channel: A row of small diamond stones are set in a groove in the diamond rings.

- Chevron: V-shaped prongs that usually hold a marquise or princess-cut diamond for solitaire style rings.

- Invisible: Diamond set in a groove without visible prongs.

- Pave: Tiny stones are embedded to look like the piece is paved with loose diamonds.

- Prong: Several prongs hold the diamonds to let light pass through without interference.

Though diamond jewelry is made of diamonds, which is one of strongest materials on earth, a hard blow can cause the diamond to chip. If proper care is taken then the diamond jewelry can last a lifetime. To clean diamond jewelry, use water and a little bit of ammonia with a gentle brush while being careful of the metal. Also keep it away from lotion, perspiration and other household cleaners. These items can dull the surface of the stones. Store your diamond jewelry separated with paper or bags, so they do not scratch or dull each other. It’s also wise to keep the diamond jewelry in its original velvet box.

Reflecting On The History Of Women

Jun-29-2008 By cindy

I’ve made a conscience effort to truly contemplate and study the story of women this month since it is nationally recognized as Women’s History Month. I expanded my studies beyond just the recent feminist history, which in my opinion is a definite highlight of our history to this point, to include our history since the start of written record.

However, this was not as easy as it would seem since the vast majority of surviving records are his-story and are very short on the details of her-story. In an attempt to keep women “in their place,” those who have followed the Judeo-Christian religions destroyed most records of the significance of women in early history. This is clearly seen in the Bible when numerous times the Jews are told to “completely destroy the nations” who worshiped these other gods, of which many were actually goddesses.

It’s significant, I think, that at one point in history females shared the title of divinity with males - and at times reigned as the sole divinity. This part of our history shows woman in all her glory, not as the fallen creature of the Bible who must forever submit to a subservient position to the man because she supposedly ate a forbidden fruit and coerced him to do the same.

It’s time the truth was known. Not the presupposed “truth” garnered from what we have always been told is reality. That reality is severely lacking in the other half of the story. We see reality as we have always been taught to see it. If someone teaches me from young that a certain color is blue, and subsequently others then reinforce that teaching in my family, community, church, government, school, etc. - then I will believe the color is actually blue.

But what if they are all wrong? What if blue is really yellow but no one wants to challenge the errant teaching because the one who said it was blue in the first place claimed to be speaking on behalf of God? In the end though, just because everyone believes this color to blue does not make it indeed blue. In fact, it is still yellow.

That is exactly what has happened in feminine history. Only this teaching has gone so long without being challenged, for fear of being ostracized or even at times killed, that it is now accepted as truth. In the process the real truth has been lost.

What is the real truth? What is reality? The truth is that “in the beginning” woman was indeed equal to man. She was just as intelligent. She was just as capable of dealing with life’s hardships. She was man’s partner, not his property or his slave. It wasn’t until she was denied basic human rights that she was demoted from equality and it wasn’t until she was denied an equal education that her intelligence was called into question.

What is the truth? The truth is that we have been taught that yellow is actually blue. We have been force fed a lie to the point we have hung our heads in original-sin guilt and accepted our plight as second rate citizens - as long as men have granted us at least that much. However, if that is all the fight we have left in us, our future will look much like our past.

We are at a significant point in history. For the last century, women in America have paved the road for us to work outside the house, vote, and even have equal legal rights with a man in the court system. Don’t take this for granted ladies, these are rights we did not have just a few short decades ago. And just as quickly as these rights emerged after thousands of years of degradation, they can slip back into oblivion with just a few court decisions.

Men have always been the ones to govern, but now we have that privilege too. Yes, at this point it is still a privilege we have been granted and can loose if we don’t take advantage of it by being active in governance and the voting process.

Our history is veiled and our present is fragile at best. Let’s make our future and our daughter’s future strong. Let’s equip them with a history worth telling and a mentality of true equality by finally standing against that old lie and teaching them the real truth.

In this age of enlightenment, how come we still call them women’s dress shoes?

Sure, most of the time we wear our women’s dress shoes with a dress, but more often than not we also wear them with our tailored trousers, business suits and jeans. But we don’t call them “tailored trousers shoes” do we?

And how come we’re still wearing those four-inch stiletto heels, when we know how hard it is to stay out of the cracks in the pavement, even in our flats?

Don’t you think we might have learned a lesson by now? The. . . damn. . . things. . . hurt. And they also damage our spine, calf muscles, cause bunions and other equally gross malformations of our feet.

But if Sex and the City taught us anything about the ways of the world in the 21st century, it was that Carrie looked smashing in her Manolo’s as she ran, yes, ran, down Park Avenue to meet whichever gorgeous hunk she was schtupping at the time. The moral of the story being “Yes girls, your designer dress shoes will always get you your man!”

So here are my not-so-serious tips on how to have a wardrobe full of fabulous women’s dress shoes:

*Make the shoe salesperson your “new best friend”. He or she is going to be part of a very, very special relationship - you and your new dress shoes.

*Forget comfort when you’ve got class! Look at those things! Don’t you just have to have them? Regardless of the fact that they feel like you’ve got metal clamps on your toes? Anyway, you can always sit down somewhere after an hour or so, well, can’t you?

*Remember cost does not equal comfort when shopping for designer dress shoes. If they cost two months’ salary, they’re worth every bit of the pain.

*When trying on your dress shoes, check how you look from every angle - sitting, standing, lying face down or up — yes, you’ll need to know how you look when you’re flat on your back after falling off your 4 inch spikes.

Far be it from me to postulate on learning nothing from our forefathers (oops, I mean mothers!), but as long as Mr Blahnik, and Jimmy Choo, and assorted other grand masters of shoe design keep making designer women’s dress shoes (there’s that phrase again) that are simply to-die-for, well, bunions be damned, I’ll die for them!

Handbags have been one of the necessities of life for women ever since recorded history began. It was important to have the items that one used often close at hand and articles found in a purse have ranged from ornate sewing scissors (17th century)to todays mandatory cell phone and credit cards.

Why is it that women carry their belongings around and men just have their wallets? My opinion is that the need to carry something to hold goods is a fundamental need rooted in the biology of females. Who is the main caregiver of the family from prehistory to the present? Yes, I know that traditional roles are gradually evolving but what person in the “traditional” family is the most responsible for taking care of everyone? In most cases, it it the woman who gets people organized and make sure everyone has whatever they need.

Biologically speaking, the female of our species takes care of her offspring and makes sure that all needs will be taken care of once the home is left. I believe that this has evolved into women carrying all that they need and what everyone else could possibly want in their handbag. To illustrate - when you go out with a male friend do you ask him for tissues, pen, or paper? No - you ask another female. Another nuturer is more likely to have some basic necessities than a male.

Am I saying that there is a basic “purse carrying” gene? No - what I am saying is that, biologically speaking, females are the caregivers of the world and have always had this role thrust upon them since the beginning of Homo sapiens. It is our destiny (both physically and psychologically) to make sure that the world is in order. We can’t handle the entire planet but we do our best to organize our own particular sphere! Our “caregiving” instincts are attuned to others and, if we fight this destiny, there is a feeling of things not being “quite right” around us. So enjoy carrying your handbag and know that you are making the global community a better place for all!

Celebrating Women

Jun-28-2008 By cindy

After thousands of years of abuse, educational deprivation and being treated like property, women are finally getting the opportunity to blossom like the beautiful flowers that they are. The entire month of March is dedicated to the strength and intelligence of the woman. It’s time to stand tall, to dance uninhibitedly and to give a dainty applause to the other half of the human race.

According to a pullout in the March 12, 2005 issue of The Washington Post, there are 14 women in the U.S. Senate, 65 women in the U.S. House of Representatives and four women serving the U.S. Cabinet. There are also eight women serving as Governors. I’d say that women are finally having a say in the world. The whole “hand that rocks the cradle” thing is nice, but it’s also just a phrase used to pacify the demand of the woman to be an equal voice of reason concerning decisions that effect her. The pullout also said that one of every four doctors in America today are women, and that number will be growing soon with half of all medical students being female.

It’s about time we got recognized for something more than just beauty. The beauty of women has long been acknowledged. However, by giving a woman recognition for just the shallow shell of a fading attribute and no more is just as demeaning as giving her no recognition at all. Though many men still find it hard to reconcile beauty and intelligence in the same female, there is no doubt at all that women will soon be on equal par with their male counterparts - in relationships and in the office.

We’ve sure come a long way baby, but we still have such a long way to go. The same Washington Post pullout, which was created and edited by women, termed their section, “A Few Who Made a Difference.” This celebration of women has become a spotlight for just the exceptional women - the doctors, legislators and activists. What about the everyday Jane? She is just as spectacular as a Susan B. Anthony or a Mae Jemison. We should be celebrating all women. We should be celebrating the stay-at-home moms and the women working at the local Wal-Mart too.

Women are faced with the daunting task of juggling family, house, relationships, and career. Though I feel this was much easier when communities were tight clans of trusted family and friends who helped with childrearing and the day-to-day dramas of life. Today, many women are not only alienated from their families because of cross-country moves, but they are also juggling a demanding career that most likely still produces guilt for time stolen from the family. I often wonder if men ever struggle with this same guilt while they build their careers. There are also many women who are raising their families alone. The father sometimes abandons her and other times she chooses for her own well being to end a bad relationship. Either way, it is not easy to raise a family alone - yet so many women do it everyday. These women are some of the strongest women I’ve ever come across and I applaud their fortitude and sheer will.

Women are beautiful. I’ll give that much to the stereotypical chauvinists. We are beautiful on the outside AND on the inside. We are also so much more. We are meek yet highly intelligent. We are masters of organization and free spirited lovers of nature. We are the nurturers of the young and the hardnosed bitches of the boardroom. We are serious about building a financially solid future yet have no problem spending a hefty chunk on a pair of quality shoes. Are we a paradox? No, we’re just a multi-faceted life form capable of a variety of roles at the same time.

So here’s to you woman! I lift my cup up in your honor. You can be anything you want to be now. That is an awesome statement that your mother or grandmother could not have said with the surety that you can say it. Our future looks just as bright as our past is dark. Ching! (wine glasses clinking together) Have a great Women’s History Month.

How To Catch His Eye

Jun-27-2008 By cindy

Yes, we all have experienced those nights when we walk into a party, club or bar and feel very insignificant. There’s always that one girl who stands out in the crowd. We all know her. We envy her. We all want to be her. She’s the one who has guys lining up to buy her a drink and never has to stand alone.

We all want to be this woman but how? It’s simple. We’ve already heard the cliche term “beauty comes from within” but the beauty within won’t get you that hot guy to notice you.

So now, we are faced with a challenge. What attracts guys? Why do almost all guys drool over Angelina Jolie, but just think that Jennifer Garnier is “cute?” We’ve all seen Carmen Electra, Pamela Anderson and Denise Richards and wonder what is it about these women?? It’s simple. All you need is that one dress that’s short but not too short. That reveals a little but leaves the rest to the imagination. Remember that the following information is steered toward getting that man that you’ve been eyeing. This information should not be used daily.

The rule to finding a hot mini dress is that you should focus on one and ONLY one part of your body to show off. It is important that if you are showing off those sexy long legs of yours with a short flowing skirt or a tight hip hugging skirt, you SHOULD NOT wear a low cut shirt on top.

The next important rule is color. Research has shown that the color red is what catches a man’s attention. Researchers say that this is due to the fact that subconsciously men connect this color to sex. If you find red too bold to wear, steer toward less bold colors. It is important to stay away from pastels, as they steer toward the “cute” look.

This advice should be followed when going out at night. Walk out during the day to the supermarket or to work in a short mini dress and you might get tons of stares but this type of attention is not the type that attracts men. This is one of the most important lessons that readers could ever learn. Beautiful women are beautiful because they know that different occasions require different looks. Master this, and you will soon be the woman in the bar that all other women want to be and all men want to talk to.

The Sweet Ripening Of The Woman

Jun-27-2008 By cindy

As this spring brings buds and blossoms galore, it’s clear that those trees, plants,
and flowers want to burst onto the stage with all their beautiful glory. It is also quite
evident that a new and exciting social change is springing forth for women as well.

Issues of gender equality come in so many forms; professional, relational, spiritual,
intellectual, and yes, even sexual. Traditional Western thought demands that women
scorn their sexuality, one of the most vital and enjoyable parts of life.

If you asked a woman in 1905, just one hundred years ago, if she was as sexually
satisfied as her partner, there would have no doubt been a variety of possible
responses. If she was taught that such talk was not “ladylike,” she may have shied
from an answer or stormed off in a pious huff. However, if you could coax an honest
reply, it would have probably entailed the required deference to the needs of her
husband.

However, there is a new season springing to life in America. With women now in
powerful positions in the media, new programs and commercials have a distinctively
feminine flare - the kind that can only be attributed to a strong woman who knows
what she wants and knows how to get it.

One example of this phenomenon is a recent McDonald’s commercial with a woman
who says that when she is eating her McGriddle and drinking some McDonald’s
coffee, she feels anything is possible and dreams of hiring a pool boy - though she
has no pool. How wonderfully scandalous! This commercial brilliantly hits home
with every woman because yes, we think about those types of things too.

I consider this commercial pioneering material. To have a man say such things is
traditionally acceptable, after all men do enjoy sex. But to have a woman say such
things breaks all social decorum, yet opens the doors of flagrant sexuality on one of
the last places to accept the woman in her real beauty - commercial marketing.

Commercial marketing has always portrayed the woman as either a sex object for
men or a Betty Crocker type, prompting several generations of women to constantly
reach for unachievable perfection projected by one delusional image or the other.
This medium has been slow to recognize the woman for her true self. I applaud
McDonald’s for this bold move. In my opinion, this single commercial has shattered
the 50s prototype and the sex object image into tiny fragments. My hope is this
commercial will set the precedence for future marketing.

One more very popular example of the changes taking place in the media
concerning women is the new hit show Desperate Housewives. This show is about
reality. When I watch this show I think to myself, “This is how real women are.”
Sure, it goes to extremes at times, as any television drama does. But it also portrays
women who are strong and intelligent.

One of the latest episodes for Desperate Housewives has a scene where Terri
Hatcher’s character wants to give certain man another chance but decides she can’t
bring herself to trust him enough to work things out. I didn’t expect that ending at
all. I was shocked that she didn’t go running back to those strong male arms, as is
oft the ending in most romantic dramas in America. But no, she was strong, she
was brave and she was intelligent. She was not needy, insecure or “desperate.” It
made me proud to be a woman.

Like this television character, women no longer wait to be told how they should feel
or what they should want. They are finally free to find out for themselves. For these
women, fulfillment comes in a variety of ways - be it through sexual, intellectual,
religious, political, or social pursuits. Today’s woman has many dimensions and I
applaud the media for finally catching up to those of us who have embraced our
many sides to find completion through exploring all that life has to offer.

It is high time the media targeted the women who are comfortable in our own skins.
Maybe this change is because they finally realize we are too intelligent to buy into
the absurd notion that we need to be recreated into some 18-year-old anorexic to
be beautiful. More likely, women are the ones calling the shots behind that camera.
Either way, a new season has definitely started and it promises the sweet ripening of
the woman.

Tall sheep skin boots look absolutely stunning when worn by tall, model-like women wearing ultra-short mini-skirts. Their long, supple legs accentuate the sleekness and smoothness of this style of boot. It is as if the message being sent is that when you buy tall sheep skin boots , you too can look like these women. But what the messages do not tell you nor show you is that as soon as you put on a pair of these boots, your feet can feel just as good as the person’s in the picture. And you don not even have to wear a mini-skirt. In fact, these fashionable boots can be paired up with any outfit you choose.

Tall sheep skin boots are named so because they are tall. In fact, the length of the boot when measured from the ankle to the top of the boot is approximately fourteen inches high. What that means to you is fourteen inches of pure pleasure because the entire length of the boot is lined with pure wool fleece. Imagine how warm your legs will feel on a cold, snowy night when they are wrapped in this luxurious material. To realize the full warming effects of these boots, do not let socks or nylons stand in the way. Tall sheep skin boots truly are best worn against bare feet and legs. Only then will the one hundred percent wool fleece be able to wrap itself around every contour of your legs and feet.

Tall sheep skin boots are available in sizes for men and women and are constructed using all the elements you have come to expect in sheep skin boots. The outer layer of the boot is soft and supple and is available in a multitude of color options including denim blue, powder blue, ruby red, black, chestnut, sand, lilac and pink. Tall sheep skin boots are double stitched for extra reinforcement using the same color thread. The tops of these tall boots can be rolled down to expose the pure wool lining, changing the look of this magnificent boot. Another decorative touch found on the tall style of boot is the addition of a friction cinch at the top which you can pull tightly to achieve an even more snug fit against your legs. Another eye-catching style of tall boot has a lace up side. The laces can be either the same or a complimentary color. As always, the soles on these tall boots are constructed in a light-weight, lugged tread design which protects the wearer from dangerous falls.

But the real pleasures of tall sheep skin boots are found on the inside. That is where you will find the soft, cozy, removable pure wool fleece insole that will begin to conform to your foot and leg the minute you put on your pair of boots. Your feet and your legs will wonder why you have never let them feel this good before. They will feel snug and refreshed because the wool will help to draw wetness away from the bare skin and help the air to better circulate. They will be warm and dry. They will even feel cool in warmer temperatures, so go ahead and wear tall boots even if it’s not cold outside. And best of all, there will be no more foul smells when the boots are removed - if the boots are removed. That’s right. Tall sheep skin boots are so comfortable that you will not want to take them off. You’ll find any excuse to wear these boots, even if it is only for a brief trip outside to get the mail.

If you are in the market for a good boot, then you should check out a pair of Australian sheep skin boot . If you do not know what to look for when searching for this type of boot, then here are a few tips. Most importantly, this type of boot is carefully crafted using the highest quality of one hundred percent genuine sheep skin. These boots are lightweight, yet they are durable. They are available in a variety of different style and color options. Unlike previous times, when one had to know someone who lived down under in order to get hold of a pair of these desirable boots, today they are readily available. To ensure that these boots last many years, they do require proper care and maintenance.

An Australian sheep skin boot will be made from the hide of a shearling from Australia or New Zealand. There are single faced hides and there are double faced hides. The double faced hides are the best because the wool will be present on both the inside of the boot as well as the outside. When using a double faced material, fleece will be on the inside which will keep feet warm and dry and suede will be on the outside, which will give the boot its soft and expensive look and feel. You will generally find that the boot is double-stitched and that both the heel and toe areas are reinforced. The sole of the boot will likely be made from a durable yet lightweight rubber material and it will have a treaded design which will protect the wearer against the dangers of slippery or icy ground conditions. In a very short period of time, the soft innersole (which is removable) will conform to the natural shape of the arch adding to this boot’s high degree of comfort.

You will find countless styles of Australian sheep skin boot. These boots are available in tall styles which generally stand up to fourteen inches high or a three-quarter style which will stand approximately ten inches high. The boot is also available in a short style, a slipper style, a work boot style, a clog style and more. The look of the boot is changeable simply by rolling down the top edge of the boot to expose the furry fleece side. These boots are available in sizes that will fit infants and children as well as adults. Besides the significant range of sizes, these boots are available in a wide variety of color options. The colors range from basic black, off-white, tan and grey to more eye-catching colors including pink, blue, red and purple. Whether you wish to wear this boot by day or by night, it will be easy to find a style that will fit your individual needs and tastes.

An Australian sheep skin boot will be easy to locate. This style of boot is so trendy right now that all the shoe stores have them in stock. If you do not feel like hitting the mall, you can fire up the Internet and quickly find the style and size you desire. Even if the boots are actually shipping from across the globe, they will arrive quickly and they will be ready to wear just as soon as you open the box.

Finally, to get the maximum life out of your Australian sheep skin boot, you must provide proper care and maintenance. Never use harsh chemicals for cleaning, extreme heat for drying or brushes or cloths that can scratch the delicate surface of the sheep skin.
